Hey there, Segway Ninebot riders!

Are you feeling a bit held back by your scooter’s speed limit?

Well, you’re not alone. Lots of riders are looking for ways to unleash their Ninebot’s full potential. But before we dive in, let’s get one thing straight: messing with your scooter’s speed limit can be risky business.

It might not be legal where you live, and it could be dangerous if you’re not careful.

So, promise me you’ll be responsible, okay?

Alright, let’s get into it!

Understanding Segway Ninebot Speed Limits

First off, why does Segway put speed limits on their scooters anyway?

It’s all about safety, folks. They want to make sure riders – especially newbies – don’t bite off more than they can chew.

Different Ninebot models have different limits, usually ranging from 15 to 20 mph.

Taking off these training wheels can be fun, but remember, it also means you’re taking on more responsibility for your safety.

Now, let’s look at six ways to turn off that pesky speed limit:

1. The Manual Method: Pressing Buttons Like a Pro

This is the simplest way to adjust your speed limit, and it works on many Ninebot models:

  • Turn off your scooter’s display.
  • Press and hold the electric brake.
  • While holding the brake, turn the display back on.
  • You should now be able to adjust the speed limit.
  • Press the “S” button to save your changes.

Want to remove the limit entirely? Try this:

  • Press the brake.
  • Hit the power button until you see “P1” on the display.
  • Change “P1” to “P3” and press “A” to confirm.

Keep in mind, this doesn’t work on all models. If it doesn’t work for you, don’t worry – we’ve got more tricks up our sleeve!

2. Ninebot F-Series: The App Hack

Got an F-series Ninebot?

Lucky you! Here’s what you need to do:

  • Make sure your scooter isn’t using firmware version DRV5.6.9 or higher.
  • Grab an Android phone with Bluetooth 5.0 or better.
  • Download the ScooterHacking Utility app.
  • Connect your scooter to the app.
  • Go to “Tools” and select “Change region”.
  • Choose “Global – (Your Scooter’s Model)”.
  • Your scooter will restart, and voila! You should now hit 30 km/h (about 19 mph) in ‘sport’ mode.
  • The DownG App Method: For the Android Users

If you’ve got an Android phone, this method’s for you:

  • Download the “downG” app from the Play Store.
  • Connect your Segway scooter to the app.
  • Go to Tools, then Advanced Tools.
  • Change the serial number to start with “S1GNA”.
  • Disconnect your scooter and turn it off and on again.

Not only should you get a speed boost, but you might also unlock cruise control.

Pretty neat, huh?

3. Ninebot G30: The XiaoFlasher App Technique

This one’s specifically for Ninebot G30 owners:

  • Download the XiaoFlasher App and a file called G30DRAGSTER.zip.
  • Turn on your scooter and connect it to the app.
  • In the app, change the region to “US 30KM/H”.
  • Then, change to “Custom Serial” and enter your scooter’s unique serial number.
  • Select the zip file you downloaded and flash it to your scooter.
  • Restart your scooter, and you should be good to go!
  • The Tech Wizard Method: ST-Link Firmware Modification

Okay, this one’s for the tech-savvy folks.

It involves messing with your scooter’s brain (aka firmware).

You’ll need:

  • An ST-Link V2 Programmer (a little gadget for talking to your scooter’s computer)
  • The right firmware file for your scooter
  • Some software called ST-Link Utility
  • A hex editor (for tweaking the firmware file)

The basic steps are:

  • Open up your scooter and find the controller board.
  • Connect the ST-Link programmer to the board.
  • Use the ST-Link Utility to read the current firmware.
  • Modify the firmware file to change the speed settings.
  • Flash the modified firmware back to your scooter.

This method is pretty risky if you don’t know what you’re doing. One wrong move and your scooter might turn into a very expensive paperweight.

So maybe leave this one to the experts, okay?

4. Custom Speed Controller: The Hardware Upgrade

Last but not least, you can swap out your scooter’s speed controller for a souped-up version.

This is great if you’ve also upgraded your battery or motor. There are companies out there (like “My Max Mods”) that make custom controllers specifically for Ninebot scooters.

These can really unleash your scooter’s potential, especially if you’ve got a Gen 2 motor (look for a serial number starting with 9).

Safety First, Speed Second!

Before you rush off to try these methods, let’s have a quick chat about safety:

  • Always wear a helmet and other protective gear. The faster you go, the harder you fall!
  • Remember, your scooter will take longer to stop at higher speeds. Give yourself plenty of room to brake.
  • Check your local laws. In many places, modifying your scooter’s speed limit isn’t just frowned upon – it’s illegal.
  • These modifications might void your warranty. So if something goes wrong, you’re on your own.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it legal to remove the speed limit? It depends on where you live. Always check your local laws first.

Do I need special tools? For some methods, yes. You might need an Android phone or even specialized hardware for the more advanced techniques.

Can I undo these changes? In most cases, yes. But it’s always a good idea to proceed cautiously.

Will this damage my scooter? If done correctly, it shouldn’t. But there’s always a risk, especially with the more technical methods.

Wrapping It Up

There you have it – four ways to turn off the speed limit on your Segway Ninebot.

Whether you’re a button-pressing pro or a tech wizard, there’s a method here for you. Just remember to ride responsibly and within your skill level. After all, the fastest ride is the one that gets you home safely!
